Children’s Writing
‘Words and stories are a natural bridge to the world of children.’
Having worked in the education sector for many years, writing for me, has become a natural connection to the world of children and my love of children’s literature.
I have written several children’s picture books and chapter books for young readers.
Attention Publishers!
Looking for that next popular children’s book that will become a family favourite?

Theo the Word Dinosaur
This is an exciting chapter book for children 8 to 11 and tells the story of a young boy Luca, who is unsure of himself as he lacks confidence in most things. He discovers a tiny dinosaur Theo, in his letterbox and they form a warm and suppotive relationship, as Luca tries to help Theo in his quest to re-join ‘the elders’. The climax of the story comes as a ‘dazzle of dinosaurs with luminescent wings’ return to collect Theo.
Will Theo be ready in time to join them? A clever twist at the end of the story, leaves the possibility of a sequel, or just teases the reader to think and speculate as to what could happen next.
Ninja Worrier
This picture book is about Max, who wants to climb and tumble down at the park, like everyone else but especially like his big brother Zac. Max shows great resilience when he tries to overcome his anxieties, by retrieving his brother’s cap, after the wind takes it.
So, the story and the ‘hook’ is about Max who is not quite brave enough to try new things – until he must. The play on words between ‘warrior’ and ‘worrier’ drives the script and the action throughout. This story
is very contemporary and the action is familiar to children 4 to 8, who all think they are action heroes and invincible like all the superstars they see in the media. Will Max succeed?
Boris The Sheep
So, what do you do when a pretentious young interloper tries to take over your mob? You keep an eye on things and try to be brave...well that’s what Boris the sheep does, and it has a satisfying but very strange outcome.
‘Boris the Sheep’ is a rhyming picture book for 4-8-year olds. It’s a story about leadership and loyalty and also looking smart – if you’re a sheep... and you’re boss of the mob!
Children will love the bravery of Boris, but adults might enjoy the humour coming from a slightly different angle.
Young readers will sympathise and cheer Boris on as he tries to protect his ‘mob’ and let’s face it - looks aren’t everything!
While Oliver Slept
A picture book story about imagination and being observant of the world around us. When Oliver goes to sleep, he is unaware of the changes taking place in his bedroom as the sun shines through his window and a storm approaches. His bedroom transforms with intricate details revealing wonderful imaginative focus points. Who would think that you would find an army, a gliding machine, pirate ships and a dragon in a bedroom on a sleepy afternoon? Things are not what they seem, unless you take the time to look!
